Did you know?

I was listening to Christmas music on the radio this morning on live365.com, and in between "Run Run Rudolph" and "Jingle Bell Rock" I heard a song that I remember singing for a Christmas concert in high school called "Mary Did you know?" This song in it's simplicity is such an amazing song to me. Mary's newborn baby was the Son of God. Can you imagine the hours of labor she went through, in a dirty, nasty, cold, unsanitary stable surrounded by horses and sheep and poop, and then staring down at her newborn baby, knowing what the Angel had told her? When she kissed his cheek, when she counted his toes, when she stroked his forehead. This was the Son of God. It just amazes me.

Here are the lyrics:

"Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy
would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy
would save our sons and daughters?

Did you knowthat your Baby Boy
has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered
will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy
will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy
will calm the storm with His hand?

Did you know that your Baby Boy
has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby
you kissed the face of God?
Mary did you know?

The blind will see. The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again. The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak. The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy
is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy
will one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your Baby Boy
is heaven's perfect Lamb?

The sleeping Child you're holding is the Great, I Am."
