My dearest Makenna..

My dearest Makenna Rae,

Today, you turned one!! I cannot believe how quickly this year has gone by! It feels like it was yesterday that we were holding you for the first time. You came so quickly that Dr VanZant didn't even make it to the hospital before you were born. The nurses caught you because you quite literally popped out of me! When they held you up, you looked just like your Nanny (your paternal great-grandma). You were also born on your Nana Rue's birthday, as well as your 2nd cousin Lauren.

You love to play with your brother, giggle, and "attack" stuffed animals by biting their noses! You aren't walking just yet, but as of Saturday, December 27th, you've shown interest in moving those legs, and I'm sure that you'll be toddling around soon! You weighed 19 lbs today when we went to the doctor. (this was for a sick baby visit-You have yet another ear infection. You're well baby 1 yr old check up is on Jan 5th) You are starting to eat table food, but have the "take it or leave it" attitude towards food. You love your bottle, and we're attempting to make the switch from the bottle to the cup, but it's "slow goings".

You were dedicated to the Lord at Englewood Baptist on Sunday, December 28th, 2008, and we vowed to continue to raise you in the way of the Lord, to teach you the Bible not only in word, but in deed as well. We are so honored to be chosen to be your parent, and we cannot wait to see you grow into the person God has created you to be.

I love your sweet smile, your amazing laugh, and your calm demeanor. You make us smile, you make us laugh, and I treasure each moment with you! My dearest little ladybug, "I will love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I am living, my baby you will be!" HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY!!

when it rains, it pours, and your floors get wet...

You know that phrase, "when it rains, it pours"?!? Well, apparently, in my life, that phrase is true, except instead of "when it rains, it pours" it should be "when it rains, it pours, and my carpet gets wet and the floors sit under an inch of water from the clogged drains"

Yeah, our pipes got backed up tonight, and covered our downstairs in an inch of water. It was just ridiculous. We called our maintenance emergency number, just to find out that it's not considered an emergency. We can't use our water downstairs, and our upstairs everytime we use our toilet upstairs we have to use a plunger.

I'm so over this and just ready to move onto where we're supposed to be...

oh and I did I tell you my car died too?!?

rough times

Bills have just piled up in the short week that Kenney's been out of work. Car payment, car insurance, utilities, rent, pre-k for Braydon. And no way to pay it. I know that God has promised to provide for all of our needs, but it's a little overwhelming. Especially since we have an idea of where we need to be heading to, but have no way of getting there (yet).

another statistic...

Kenney always said he was proud he had not become a statistic. He had never been arrested, never been in a gang, was employed and hard working. And today, he lost his job.

We'd seen the writing on the wall, and we knew it was coming. They've been laying off more and more people on a weekly basis. Pay cuts were every where. Kenney had been looking for other jobs, but to no avail. He is an architectural draftsman, so he's tied to the housing industry, which obviously isn't doing too well.

So, here we are...me working part time, Kenney unemployed with 4 mouths to feed and we can only trust the God knows what He is doing. We'd love to go to IHOP in Kansas City, but we'll just have to pray for provision to do so, because at this point we just can't do that.

Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

struggles...

I'm struggling with a lot right now and to be honest, I just don't know which way is up....

We're struggling with Braydon...we've changed his diet, and seen a significant improvement, but he still struggles daily. You can see it in his eyes! He told me this morning that he just can't stop moving and he wants it to stop. So that's it. We're going to go ahead and start him on the medicine, which I've got mixed feelings about.

Another thing I'm struggling with is my "careers". Yes I said careers. Right now I'm being pulled in way too many directions, and it's driving me insane. I have to finish out the school year teaching...it's not just something you can give your two weeks in on. I LOVE MY PHOTOGRAPHY, but financially, do not have the means to purchase the equipment I need to pursue them right now. My sister who is an amazing photographer and has amazing equipment and I'm totally jealous of her lens. Apparently, she is jealous of another photographers equipment...I guess its a vicious cycle! I love Mary Kay, and would love to be a sales director, but I don't know if I have the team underneath me that will make it successful. I also know that I love being a mommy, but with "working" 3 different "jobs" my domestic career is being neglected. So what do I do?

Also, Kenney needs to find a new job, like as in find one yesterday. They are continually laying people off left and right at his job, and there's even been rumors of bankruptcy. But no one locally is hiring for his line of work. So that means he's having to look for work elsewhere.

I think it's time I went back to bed...maybe when I wake back up it'll be better?!?

"Who would do that to their kid?"

Overheard at pre-k while picking up Braydon from school:

Parent A: "Can you believe that someone wouldn't let their child have halloween candy?"

Parent B: "No! That poor child doesn't get to have all the fun that the rest of the kids have. It's a shame, they're depriving them of so much fun!"

Parent A: "They probably don't even let him watch tv or play video games!"

Parent C (Aka ME): Well, actually have you ever read the labels on the candy that you're giving your children? Most of the candy has artificial colors in them such as Red 40 and high fructose corn syrup. And no, he doesn't play video games. He reads books, rides his bike and spends time with his family.

Parents A & B: silence.

"Painful Elimination"

So the name of this post is pretty much just for my dad. It's a long story about a foreign exchange student, a class assignment and a foreigner talking to their high school class about "painful elimination" but not really understanding what they were talking about...

Anyways, for a little while now I've been considering cloth diapers. Other friends of mine have since switched to cloth diapers, and once I brought up the idea that I might be interested in using them, I've found other friends that used them that I was unaware of. But that's a lot of time and energy in cleaning diapers, and I just don't know if I can commit to that just yet. So I guess we'll just stick with our box of 240 diapers. Once they run out, we'll figure it out from there....

On Sunday, we were at my in-laws house, when I saw Makenna start to make the red "I'm about to go" face. I grabbed her, and started stripping her on the way to the bathroom. I don't know what came over me or what made me think about it, but I was going to put her on the potty and see if she'd go. Couldn't hurt, could it? Well anyways, I put her on the potty, and she just sat there grinning, playing with her feet, and GOING! I mean really going. A LOT. It was one of those "blow outs" that I'm so thankful fell in the potty, rather than in her diaper.

I called Kenney in there, partly because she was so stinking cute, (get it?!? Stinking?!?) being all small and stuff and sitting on the potty (with Mommy's help of course!) But I also called him in there to see and witness that she indeed had gone in the potty. I have a sneaking suspicion that had I not, he would not have believed me. Why would I lie about "crap" like that? (get it?!? "Crap" like that?!? Alright, I stop with the cracks about pooping...)

I'm sure my MIL thinks I'm nuts. After all, Makenna was purely breastfed til 9.5 months, eats organic baby food, doesn't eat much table food, and Braydon doesn't eat junk food, or anything with red 40 or high fructose corn syrup in it....So why wouldn't I work on potty training at (almost) 10 months?

I mean some countries/cultures don't even use diapers at all. Surely, if they can do it, so can I!! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not forcing her to sit on the potty. But when she starts making the red face, I strip her diaper off and sit her on the potty. I save a diaper, and she's going to get used to going in the potty. She went yesterday in the potty when she started her red face. And today, she started making a face, although it wasn't red, but I ran her to the potty, and she peed. So that was pretty cool.

What do you think?!? Can you really potty train a 10 month old?!? =)

Bad, bad blogger!!

Okay, blogland, I'm back, I swear. Life is so busy and blah blah blah, you get the picture. Anyways, I've got much to blog about so I will post them individually...happy reading!!

Stock Market

A friend of mine sent this to me, and thought it was interesting...any comments?

Once upon a time in a village named Caveat Emptor, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching some of the few remaining monkeys again.Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it! The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.

In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each." The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man, nor his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere!

Now you have a better understanding of how the stock market works!!

Fall retreat...

I had a great time in West Virginia, and the kiddos and Kenney did just fine without me. It turned out, I won lots of stuff while I was there. I got in the top 5 of sales, runner up for Queen of Star Consultants and actually won Queen of Sharing!! I got a nice little tiara and a sash and got to move from the "VIP" seats to the head table! Pretty sweet! I know it probably sounds corny, and it probably is, but it felt really awesome to be acknowledged after my hard work! Sorry the pictures kinda stink, the people taking the pictures apparently didn't know how to take them...
