"Who would do that to their kid?"

Overheard at pre-k while picking up Braydon from school:

Parent A: "Can you believe that someone wouldn't let their child have halloween candy?"

Parent B: "No! That poor child doesn't get to have all the fun that the rest of the kids have. It's a shame, they're depriving them of so much fun!"

Parent A: "They probably don't even let him watch tv or play video games!"

Parent C (Aka ME): Well, actually have you ever read the labels on the candy that you're giving your children? Most of the candy has artificial colors in them such as Red 40 and high fructose corn syrup. And no, he doesn't play video games. He reads books, rides his bike and spends time with his family.

Parents A & B: silence.

K has actually never ever had a cookie or a piece of candy or anything like that...people think I am mean...but I don't care. He is allergic to nuts and eggs which means he can't eat any of those things....but, even if he could I wouln't want him to. He actually thinks fruit is dessert. In fact, we got little play dough for the trick or treater this year. =)

Oooh a parent after my own heart. i dont even like halloween but i won't let Kian eat that junk. the only "junk" he gets is homemade/home baked junk--which is blueberry "cakes", and just this weekend homemade as "natural" as possible chocolate chip cookies. all natural crackers, cereals, etc. my MIL thinks I"m a nut too, that and I haven't vaccinated him. but we all do what we think is best for our kids and if "best" is video games, tv, and candy then count me out. Kian never watches tv--unless MIL is watching him.
